The Piney River Country Club

Built along the Piney River, the Piney River Country Club is an 18-hole, private gated golfing community of about 350 residents and 40 upscale attached apartments. About 60 of these residences are built on the river. Each residence usually has a dock and boat. Fishing and boating are popular, and at low tide the channel can handle boats with six to seven foot draft. The club has a large community pool, six tennis courts, a 60-seat grill room off the pro shop and a restaurant and dance floor that will hold about 200 people.

The well-stocked pro shop is on the lower floor and the golfer's grill overlooks the 18th hole. Blacktop golf cart paths run throughout the course. Carts are for rent but many homeowners own their own carts.

The course layout is not long, 6,800 yards, but it is tricky. A very pleasant but challenging place to play.

About five years after the course was opened, the development company that had sold the real estate for the homes opened the course for sale. About 20 residents made substantial investments, but 51 percent of the stock and assets were purchased by Clem Halliburton, a resident living on the property at Nassau Circle, a Four-residence gated facility within the community.

The Piney River Country Club is considered an upscale residential area. Residents are proud of its golf, tennis and swimming teams and the jovial, friendly neighborhoods make for a great place to live.
